Macedonia is Greece

Posted by
Dan (Bucuresti (Bucharest), Romania) on 3 March 2020 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

The original photo was taken in Thessaloniki/Greece on September 15th 2018. At the sunset hour many groups of people were going to a great meeting protesting against adopting name of Macedonia for a former Yugoslav Republic. Finally there were over 100,000 people at the meeting and were also some violent incidents, so we felt for the first time the taste of tear gas. The meeting ended with a succes over time: the former Yugoslav Republic is now called Northern Macedonia, and Macedonia remains the name of a Greek province.

That day I was accidentally in Thessaloniki. This is one of those lucky photos taken when you are in the right place at the right time.

@Existence Artistique: Merci beaucoup!

Anna Cherer from LA ROCHELLE, France

Very effective with the selective colors on the flag ! I like the silhouettes and the story too !

@Anna Cherer: Thank you so much! The original photo was a lucky one, I was accidentaly there in that day. Generally I'm not a symphathizer of post-processing, but in this case the post-processing gave force to the photo.

Your image is a great testament to the day. I like that the silhouettes here are not extremists (based on your story) but rather families, kids, and baby strollers. Glad that you were not injured, and able to document this unexpected but historically significant event.

@Jason Kravitz: Ty for your appreciations. It would be interesting to post also the original photo (unprocessed) but I don't know where to do that on the site.

ceteceva from Angers, France

Une photo très forte !
Ce groupe familial en contre-jour impressionne sous ce ciel menaçant !

@ceteceva: Merci! C'est aussi le resultat du post-processing.

RE: It would be interesting to post also the original photo

Since Aminus3 is an "image a day" site, you would have to post the original image for another calendar day (like tomorrow's post).

Or in the future, you could make a composite in photoshop showing the top image as the processed version and the original version on the bottom (so you have a tall photo consisting of the two).

@Jason Kravitz: Ty for your suggestion! The second alternative is the best, I'll do it.

Leslie from Brussels, Belgium
